How Change for SA was born
Change for SA started as a way to facilitate fundraising and implementation of community upliftment initiatives within Bela Bela's local community, including the assistance of educational facilities.
Century 21 Bela Bela found a general need in Bela Bela for an initiative that could bring different role players together under one roof and focus their combined strengths on tackling burning social and economic issues within the community through upliftment initiatives.
According to Fred van Heerden, Principal/Owner of Century 21 Bela Bela, Change for SA was previously known as Change for Bela Bela before being renamed in April 2020.
"We initially only envisioned getting involved with community upliftment initiatives in and around Bela Bela as that was where our business interests were situated. But, as we expanded our reach and business interests into other areas in our beautiful country, we started to realise that we can and should do the same when it comes to community upliftment initiatives."
Change for SA lends a helping hand
Change for SA assists schools in townships with the cutting of grass and tree felling, as well as urgent repairs that are needed for broken windows and ablution facilities, amongst others. It also sponsors local sporting events and soccer teams.
Change for SA has installed several free Wi-Fi hotspots in the townships in and around Bela Bela that is operated to this day and envision expanding this into more townships. This is especially appreciated by the communities where they have been installed as many of these areas suffer from severe economic hardships.
Change for SA proves successful
Change for SA has made a massive impact in elevating local communities. The initiative's Facebook has attracted over 6,690 followers who engage on issues on the page. Van Heerden says Century 21 Bela Bela involvement has even resonated with their clients.
"We have found that our clients are very encouraged to do business with us when they notice that we care about our community and carry their interests with us through every opportunity that comes our way. This has a tremendous positive impact on their willingness to partner with us to make their dreams a reality."
