Randburg's safety check: all the factors you can count on

Category Area Info

As a buyer or renter, safety is at the top of your checklist when finding that perfect place to call home. Well, rest assured, Randburg not only hears you but goes above and beyond to make this a non-negotiable feature of its living experience. From established security infrastructure to a vigilant police force, Community Policing Forum (CPF) initiatives, trained armed security, to a variety of secure suburbs and estates, Randburg is an area that takes your well-being seriously.

Security cameras are on the lookout

Silent but tirelessly working in the background, security cameras are an important part of making an area safer and helping to solve crimes. Several Randburg suburbs have installed these while others are aiming to include them as part of their crime-fighting efforts.

In 2021, the Bloubosrand community had licence plate recognition security cameras set up, which are monitored by Fidelity ADT. These can pick vehicles up early and often match them to crimes in other areas. They also play an important role as a deterrent to criminals. In Sharonlea, over 90 cameras were installed in 2022. These included six licence plate recognition (LPR) cameras at the area's two main entrances and four sub-entrances. The suburb is now regarded as one of Randburg's safest suburbs through this intervention.

Dedicated police are on the beat

While crime is a reality, Randburg has blue-uniformed men and women who work hard to keep the area safe. The latest crime stats in 2022, reported by Randburg Police Station, showed a reduction in crime in the policing area - particularly contact and property crime. There was also a reduced number of robberies with aggravating circumstances indicating the measures they put in place are working.

The local police force has made headlines for working with the area's private security, CPF, and businesses to overcome crime. They also run crime awareness and prevention initiatives and workshops to help the community be more security-conscious.

The CPF is lending a helping hand

One of the reasons Randburg is a good area is because of its engaged Community Policing Forum (CPF). A CPF is a partnership between the community and the police that aims to enhance communication and cooperation to address and prevent crime. Randburg's police precinct has three sectors and each has a CPF that acts as a community link to the police.

The Randburg CPF plays an important role in the area. They hold police accountable, work together with the police to combat crime, and facilitate the resolution of concerns, problems, and complaints.

Private security is at your service

Randburg's private security companies regularly patrol the area and are stationed at road and estate entrances. They play an active role in the community by working with local stakeholders.

In 2023, EC Security joined forces with the Randpark Ridge Village Association (RRVA) to pick up litter and send a message that the community was cared for and protected. Papamani Reaction has also worked with local residents to cut the grass on verges and pavements in Cresta. Armed security has helped to apprehend suspects in high-speed chases, patrol potential hijacking hotspots, and prevent home burglaries.

Safe suburbs and estates to live in

Those on the home hunt will find a great choice in Randburg. The area's suburbs and estates provide peace of mind. Besides being sought-after for their lifestyle and proximity to amenities, North Riding, Ferndale, Sharonlea, and Northcliff, for example, are known for their safety. Properties in these areas have excellent security features, including electric fencing, 24-hour security, CCTV, access gates, alarm systems, and intercoms.

With the rise in estate living, Randburg also offers exceptional options. Jackal Creek Golf Estate and Cedar Lakes Estate boast state-of-the-art security features to ensure residents enjoy all the facilities they offer.
