Comic Con Africa 2019 is for your inner fan. Whether you love comic books, gaming, board games or pop culture, this is the event to celebrate it. It's where you can express yourself, meet your icons and treat yourself to exclusive fandom gear and unique artwork. The event is about making memories with people who share your passion.  Now in its second year, here's your guide to one of the country's biggest events. 

What is Comic Con Africa 2019?

A better question: where have you been? This is a multi-genre entertainment, comic and fan convention. It features cosplay, comic books, anime, manga, film & television series, games and books/authors. It also showcases a large range of pop culture and entertainment elements in animation, toys, gadgets, clothing, collectable card games and video games, to name a few. 

Last year, the event welcomed over 45 000 visitors, 212 exhibitors and almost 400 media. It even trended on Twitter

When is Comic Con Africa 2019?

You can attend one or multiple days between 21 to 24 September (9 am to 6 pm).

You've got your ticket (lucky you!). Here's a preview of the fun you can expect.

  • Rub shoulders with a geek royalty: Comic Con Africa has attracted some of the world's most famous faces. Film and series stars include Anthony Mackie (Avengers: Infinity War), William Shatner (Star Trek) and Daniel Gillies (The Vampire Diaries). Cosplayers like LeeAnna Vamp and comic creators like Patric Reynolds (Hellboy) are also in the mix.   
  • Treat yourself to a new toy: You'll want to free up some shelf space. The exhibitor list includes Bambury/ORB Toys (educational and sensory toys), English Rose Jewellery (handmade jewellery) and Clover Records (music figurines and vinyl records). You can even feel like a Pokémon trainer with a handcrafted pokéball from Pokéball Paradise.
  • Get into character: Into cosplay? Here you can dress up as your favourite character. There are change rooms to perfect your look, fantastic backdrops where you can pose and photographers who will take your picture for free. There are also lots of competitions to enter.
  • Show your gaming skills: You think you're the greatest. Why not prove your worth? Comic Con Africa has a dedicated hall for epic Esports tournaments and free play zones with the latest equipment. You'll also get to stock up on your favourite titles with special deals from major retailers. 
  • Get the inside scoop: This is sure to wow your friends. There'll be regular sneak peek previews, trailers and full screenings at the event. Some films you can see include Abominable, The Angry Birds Movie 2 and Impervious Soul.
  • Sing your heart out: Is karaoke is your secret superpower? Fantastic! You should go to the Cosplay Karaoke Cafe. There are themed hours with something to suit anyone's style. You don't even need to be in cosplay and you stand the chance to win great prizes.
  • See some fantastic artwork: Art is at the heart of Comic Con Africa. You'll get a visual feast for the eyes at Artist Alley. This area provides a showcase for independent artists and their original and fan art in varying mediums. You can find the perfect memento of your Comic Con Africa trip in a painting, poster or t-shirt. 
  • Check out a seminar or workshop: The who's who of geekdom are all here. They're ready to share their knowledge and insight. You can learn about the French comic book industry, sharpen your writing ability and learn about LARPing
