Jeanarie Norquoy is the Edenvale SPCA Committee Member. She is an advocate for animal rights and works to make the world a safe place for all animals - big and small. Ondine Schultz is the proud co-founder of Power Paws, a professional dog-walking company in Edenvale. She works as a dog trainer, behaviour coach, puppy instructor, clicker instructor, and dog walker.
Why is Edenvale such a great place to be a pet owner?
Jeanarie: Edenvale has quite an amazing community of animal lovers and the properties in the area have well-sized gardens. Edenvale also has a few lovely pet-friendly complexes/estates. Some of the newer built establishments even have beautiful walking trails.
Ondine: We have loads of pet-friendly parks, the best dog walkers (trained professionals), and pet-friendly restaurants.
What are your favourite pet-friendly spaces in and around Edenvale?
Jeanarie: There is the dog park by The Flamingo Shopping Centre in Modderfontein. Hurlyvale, Highway Gardens, and Dunvegan also have nice big parks where dogs can be walked on a leash. Horwoods Farm will hopefully be opening soon too where dog owners will be able to walk their four-legged companions.
Ondine: Definitely The Landing in Dunvegan, Peter Pan Park, and the park next to Grand Slam Sports Diner.
What advice do you have for new pet owners in the area?
Jeanarie: Please sterilise and microchip your animals, take puppies to puppy schools which offer force-free methods, and keep your pets safely away from the public's eyes. You should have regular vet visits (annually), feed them good quality pet food, and, of course, give them lots of love and good attention.
Ondine: Dogs live in a world of smells. By giving them regular walks, you can give them much-needed physical and mental stimulation. If you don't have the time or you're too busy, you can try out our dog-walking service.
