Witbank at a glance
The city of Witbank, situated on the Highveld of Mpumalanga approximately 100km east of the Gauteng province. In 2006 Witbank was renamed Emalahleni, meaning, "place of coal" because of the deposit's proving an attractive draw card for some of the biggest names in the mining industry. Today Emalahleni is an central point on the route between the Gauteng province and the Kruger National Park.
Emalahleni offers an diversity of attractions, like the Witbank dam, Highveld Mall, Nature reserve that's a conservationist centre for the Rocky Highveld Grassland, Casino entertainment complex, many guest houses and Estate Agencies. The Highveld Mall is a retail hub catering for the surrounding vicinity.
Because of the world-class coal deposits proving an attractive lure for some of the biggest names in the mining industry. Since the establishment of the city Emalahleni, 22 collieries have ensured a steady flow of business into the area. As a result of the influx of development Emalahleni has doubled its population, due to the increased job opportunities and financial stability offered here. Schooling, College and Universities are available, catering for all educational tiers and ages.
