History
Kempton Park was established in 1903 when Karl Friedrich Wolff sub-divided a portion of his Zuurfontein farm into 216 residential plots and named the new town “Kempten” after the German town in Bavaria of his birth. Soon after, the name was changed to Kempton Park.

O.R Tambo International Airport (Africa's busiest airport) is located in Kempton Park. In 1952 the airport, then known as Jan Smuts International Airport, was built on land next to the town, and officially opened in 1953. The airport's name was changed to Johannesburg International Airport in the late 1990s and then to O.R Tambo International Airport in 2006.

Attractions
South Africa is known to be one of the hotter countries, so being able to go ice skating is a sure treat. You’ll only find 3 ice rinks in the whole of Gauteng, and Kempton Park is home to one of them. The Festival Mall Ice Arena will provide a fun day out, along with lots of laughs. Starting with wobbly legs, you’ll soon get the hang of it.

If you’re looking for some downtime, then Octavia's Day Spa is a magnificent place to unwind and forget about all the stresses of daily living. Located at the five star D'Oreale Grande Hotel at Emperors Palace, this is easily one of the best day spas in the country. The award-winning day spa offers a full range of spa treatments, as well as various top-class spa facilities such as the Swiss shower, sauna, steam room and Roman baths.

Take it up a notch by tearing up the track on one of the most challenging courses in motorsport rallies. Rallystar Motorsport Academy gives you a thrill you’ll never forget. An adrenaline filled day starts off with an introduction session during which you’ll be taught about “the art of driving”, rallying as a sport and the incredible experience of participating. Then it’s your turn to get behind the wheel. This will test your team-work and listening skills while giving you an exhilarating day of fun.

If all that adventure and adrenaline works up an appetite, then Platia is the place to go. This restaurant offers the ultimate in authentic Greek cuisine – they serve some of the best signature dishes around, including slow roasted lamb shank stuffed with herbs, Kleftiko and of course mouthwatering moussaka. If you’re undecided on what to choose from the extensive menu, then order the Meze Platter, where you’ll get to sample a range of Greek cuisine.

Get cultured when you visit the Theatre of Marcellus (and we’re not talking about the one in Rome). True to its name, the theatre at Emperors Palace is fit to provide guests with memories worthy of an esteemed Roman general. One thousand theatre-goers can enjoy show-stopping entertainment in the 17 tiered auditorium with lavish seating and exceptional lines of sight. Numerous international, as well as local acts, have graced the stage at the Theatre of Marcellus including, Barry Hilton, Nataniel, Steve Hofmeyr, Johnny Clegg, Casper de Vries and Kurt Darren.

If you’re after a quality brew, then Triple Desire Brewery is where you’ll find it. Triple Desire Brewery, the name behind Embombi Premium Lager, was founded in August 2014 by Thabiso Molekwa. Since then, the brewery has continued to create fantastic flavours and showcase these via regular tastings at bars, pubs, taverns and restaurants throughout Johannesburg and its surrounding townships. The Embombi Premium Lager is Triple Desire’s signature beer and is definitely worth a try! At the moment, the Triple Desire Brewery does not have a permanent base. However, the beers are often showcased at various festivals and events around Gauteng.
