White River at a glance

White River is situated in the heart of the gracious living environment that is The Lowveld. White River lies 20km north of Nelspruit not far from the border with Kruger National Park. White River has a population of about 20,000 and is located in an area of considerable scenic beauty.

The climate is said to be one of the best in South Africa, neither excessively hot in summer when rainfall is at its highest, nor overly cold during the sunny winters. The farms tend to be relatively small but the agriculture is intensive with tropical and citrus fruits in abundance, and vegetables and cut flowers readily available. Dating back to 1904, at the end of the Anglo Boer War, when Lord Milner established an irrigation farming scheme for unemployed British soldiers returning from the war, White River has grown into one of the most sought after residential areas in Mpumalanga.

The town is well situated and lies within 20 minutes of the Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport and the Kruger National Park. The town boasts two of the best private schools in the country along with other prestigious government institutions. White River has more than 10 secure lifestyle estates, several townhouse complexes for all income levels and a selection of retirement villages along with the old houses on large stands which the town was built around.
